at this retreat center that I received a phone call from my wife, telling me that what was supposed to be a routine ultrasound turned up a picture of our unborn child suffering from congestive heart failure.
Since I'll be there on silent retreat for the next few days, I wrote this post ahead of time, and set it to publish at the time of the mid-morning Eucharist. It was just before the service. Got a message to call home, which I did.
At communion we prayed for my wife and child. Across the way from the main retreat house there is a simple, small monument entitled "To the Unborn". I visit it every time I come here. God met me there in a particular way 8 years ago.
SJ is now a grade 1 student, ballet enthusiast & beginning skater, living with Down Syndrome. Maybe I'll bring her here someday, and we'll both meet God together.
Eucharisto - I give thanks.
