Russell D. Moore at Mere Comments has a post on some discussion in the NY Times of the ethical implications of the new technology of preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), a process where through in vitro fertilization (IVF) parents are able "to detect a predisposition to cancers that may or may not develop later in life, and are often treatable if they do." Read the piece and the comments.
For some, this raises questions about the ethical trajectory of technologies. For others, there are no such ethcial concerns. My suspicion is that one's approach to this topic depends on one's prior world view, but that's another story, on which I've had my say.
How do we learn to about unconditional love when we engineer the one we are to love, in order to meet conditions we see as optimal?
