When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:
So what are we doing this week at sol café? We are going to start by talking about the thoughts in the last post: how does a person reveal the truth about themselves? How do we reveal who we are to others, and how does Jesus reveal himself to us? Following up on the last post, we will be looking at some of the beatitudes as ‘revelation” – revealing who Jesus is, and revealing who we are. What does Jesus reveal about himself in these words? What do they reveal about us?
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Can we build a community based on these words?
What is a human being?
That’s a start for now. See you at the sol café.
We reflected on the " Beatitudes " a few weeks ago at Cafe' Jazzaniah. It was probabaly one of the best evenings we've had as far as participation goes. Alot of great conversation, some of it heated at times. But, as you say the deeper we dive into what Jesus is saying...you come to see his words are filled with revelation...about Him, the Kingdom, about us, humanity. It's too easy to skim over the beatitudes, it takes courage to immerse yuorself in it.
