What is the place of freedom of expression? What (if any) are its limits? I ran across this interesting news story from CTV. In light of the current political debates with Canada on the definition of marriage, how do we as a society move forward?
It seems the Roman Catholic bishop of Calgary is the subject of a complaint to the Alberta Human Rights Commission, over his statements regarding his church's position on the matters of human sexuality. I haven't seen his full statements, so I'm not certain of the full content of what he said. But it does raise two questions: who gets to decide what kind of speech is "legitimate", and what is the place of freedom of conscience and religion in our society?
